A little wicker chair....

I am coming to the end of what has been a truly lovely week. It has been our first week without childcare and I have to say, I am loving it! I hadn't realised until this week how truly unhappy I have been trying to manage work/childcare and a constantly sick baby.
With more spring in my step, I have had a massively productive week doing some 'winter cleaning' and organising and yes to those who are interested, I have been making our bed daily. There is no doubt that by making our bed I have been more organised - who would have thought!
A beautifully made bed with 'nurse's corners' and crisp tightly tucked in sheets, is truly heavenly.
Needless to say, I have been sleeping ridiculously well.
I have also been doing a lot of daydreaming about little creative projects, namely my little wicker chair. Look what I found on Design Sponge...... I LOVE it!

Yes, I could go with a safe option and paint the chair white and opt for a brightly covered cushion, but this probably wouldn't go with our furniture. Something bright on the otherhand could look fabulous! I love the colour aqua but I am thinking that red could look great too.
If I were to paint my little chair red, I was thinking that the fabric swatch samples below would like great as cushions - I am leaning towards the black and grey Alexander Henry 'Copenhagen Black' print..... The Surface Art Mikko Red/Chino print also has potential.

Surface Art - Mikko Red/Chino

Home Decor - Copenhagen Black

La Paloma Birds Black

The Paloma birds in black also by Alexander Henry, is equally beautiful. This print would also look great as wall art. So many choices. What do you think? Any suggestions or opinions welcome :)

Hope you have all had a good week. The rain has finally stopped here in Brisbane, so hopefully the backyard dries up quickly so we can do some playing in the sunshine over the weekend.

See you next week,

Kate x

Making your bed .....

I was cruising through Apartment Therapy (I love this blog!) this morning and found this post (attached to the link) that made me laugh and yet cringe at the sametime.
If the theory, 'the state of your bed is the state of your head' as written in this article is accurate, well I am in need of some serious therapy. My husband's side of the bedroom is always orderly, mine on the otherhand is often covered with books and magazines I am yet to read, shoes, clothes that are yet to be neatly placed in the wardrobe and so much more. Don't worry. I can assure you that you would never find any rotten food or the like! Either way, this post has got me thinking.
As of today, I Kate hereby promise to start making our bed every day. I will also start keeping my side of the bedroom spotless - actually, lets just aim for more organised. Spotless is a big ask afterall ;)
I wonder if like the article says, that by simply making my bed I will become miraculously more organised? Thankyou Apartment Therapy. You may have just provided me with the kick up the backside that I need! In the meantime, here are some lovely bedroom pics from pinterest for inspiration .....

'Delicious' magazine and a blog ...

Today I thought I would do a brief write up on one of my new favourite magazines.
I am quite literally so obsessed with decorating and cooking magazines, that it is almost becoming problematic - not to mention expensive! I cannot articulately describe the sheer thrill I get when I receive one of my beloved subscriptions in the mail. Knowing my passion for pouring over divine magazines, for mother's day my husband (on behalf of the little man), gave me a subscription to 'Delicious' - be still my heart. My excitement was palpable, particularly when I realised that Katie Quinn Davies from none other than 'What Katie Ate', was now a regular contributor at 'Delicious' - squeak! Believe me, Katie's contribution alone to this magazine is reason to purchase.

Katie's article this month was titled 'Little beauties', detailing the decadence of canapes, making me want to seriously reach through the pages and shove (yes, quite literally shove by the handful!) the 'beef and pork sliders' she had photographed into my mouth (sorry, that's a bit graphic and bordering on 'Nigella-esque').
Her photos have been styled to perfection, giving the reader a true sense of winter - the photos were dark and broody, lit by candlelight. Reading this article and pouring through this edition of 'Delicious', I could have been transported to winter in a little B&B in the English countryside, instead of being in a chilly post war home without insulation, trying to warm my feet under the oil heater. Did I mention the screeching of possums in our mango tree? Not very English country side at all, but funny none the less - you have to laugh!
Bill Granger is also a regular contributor to 'Delicious' and lets face it, one can never get enough of Bills simple, tasty recipes! His feature on 'Christmas in July' has my husband and I very inspired to host our very own Christmas next month. In short, if you have never purchased a copy of 'Delicious,' I am seriously thinking that you should :)

Before I sign off, I also wanted to mention a new blog that I have recently discovered called 'la porte rouge'. The reasons for why I love this blog will immediately become obvious when you click on the link. Once again, I am left gobsmacked at how overwhelmingly clever some people out there in cyberspace.

I can't believe it is Sunday night - where do the weekends go?
Did you relax or have you been busy embarking on some fabulously creative project?

Boot scootin...

I love a good sale people and my goodness, Country Road never fail to disappoint! Snapped up these babies last week and I have to say, I almost look sophisticated in them.
Have you had a bit of a spend up in the mid year sales?

This week in photographs..

I have been doing too much 'thinking' about this blog and not enough 'doing'. For a long time now I have been wanting to feature some of my own photography on this blog but have not been sure how to go about it. I have learnt so much by participating in  'Blogging Your Way' (thanks Holly & Co.) and have decided to take a risk and start putting what I have been reading and imagining into practice. I have fired up 'the ole canon', downloaded some brand new photography apps and have had a great week playing around with my camera and Instagram.
This has been my week in photographs.....
Flowers from home.... The freesia bulbs are coming along beautifully. Looking forward to spring! Tulips were photographed at my mother's house. How lovely is the green jug? The rose was photographed while going for a walk at New Farm Park with the little man.

With the cooler weather we have been experiencing here in Brisbane, coffee and yummy toasted sandwiches are quickly becoming my lunchtime favourite - not great for the waistline but great comfort food. The shoes well, I love them therefore they had to be photographed. Had to photograph puddings I also made for our dinner party.... delish.

Tomatoes anyone? I am seriously considering giving up my day job and becoming a cherry tomato farmer. The tomato vines have been taking over our deck! It is amazing what neglect can do for the growth of your veggie patch ;)  I can also grow basil at pretty much noxious weed proportions. Which reminds me, we need more pesto!

Have been reading some really fabulous magazines and books that I can't wait to share with you.
Will post again in the next couple of days.
Kx.
P.S. There is a gremlin in blogger! The formatting of this post is disastrous and the photos wont centre??? Have spent too long fixating and decided to post anyway :)
